Presentations for National Pain Week

24 – 30 July 2023

To mark National Pain Week, Arthritis Pain Support and ME/CFS is presenting a free online talk series by experts, helping you understand chronic pain and how to manage it. The speakers will allow time for questions and answers from participants. Learning more about chronic conditions can help you manage them. All welcome – members and the public.

Mindfulness and Chronic Pain

Presented by Linda Clee (Arthritis ACT), an experienced physiotherapist having worked clinically for over 20 years in private practice, rehabilitation settings and in community based aged care. Having owned and operated her own clinic for 10 years or so, she has refined her skills and service offerings to ensure a functional focus to therapy that is holistic and promotes overall wellness.

Enhancing Well-being Osteopathy and Breathing Retraining 

Find out how osteopathy and breathing retraining can:

  • help in the management of chronic conditions including arthritis, long COVID, asthma and ME/CSF.
  • address pain management, lymphatic drainage, mobility issues and stress reduction.
  • empower individuals to regain their well-being and improve their quality of life.

Breathing exercises included.

Presented by Dr Imogen Collyer, a senior osteopath at North Canberra Osteopathy who has additional training in Integrative Breathing Therapy. Osteopathy combines a wide range of treatment techniques and this presentation provides a deeper understanding of the whole person approach taken by osteopaths.

Understanding Pain and Medications

Presented by pain specialist Dr Geoffrey Speldewinde, who directs the private multidisciplinary Capital Pain and Rehabilitation Clinic which offers assistance for people with persistent pain. He is also the Director of Rehabilitation at Calvary John James Hospital. He has specialist qualifications in both rehabilitation and pain medicine.

Zoom Strength Exercise Classes

Offered multiple times per week by our exercise team, these classes will improve your strength and balance while helping you to connect with others, in an online environment. No equipment or previous exercise experience is required. Bookings are essential to ensure you receive the link to join and can be made by calling our office.

These online exercise classes are free for all financial members of Arthritis, Pain Support and ME/CFS ACT. A tax deductible donation of $50 every 6 months is appreciated to help ensure we can keep these classes running in the long term but, it is not compulsory).

Classes are held:

  • Tuesdays 10am
  • Wednesdays 10am
  • Thursdays 10am

 


GLA:D® Education sessions 1 & 2

GLA:D® (Good Life with Arthritis: Denmark), is an education and exercise program developed by researchers in Denmark for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms. GLA:D® uses education and exercise to help with daily activities. It is run only by physiotherapists. Click here to find out more about our GLA:D® program

Education sessions are offered both face-to face and via zoom. Face-to-face sessions are only available at our Bruce office (170 Haydon Drive, Bruce). All sessions run for 1.5 hours. Please contact our office to book your spot and obtain the zoom details.
